What is Reiki?

Reiki, an ancient Japanese spiritual practice, was developed in the early 20th century by the Buddhist monk Usui Sensei with the purpose of promoting physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being.

Inspired by Buddhist, Shinto, and Taoist traditions, Reiki is primarily based on meditation, the transmission of Ki (vital energy) through the hands, and a set of spiritual values. This regular practice not only brings about physical improvements but also promotes serenity and mental clarity.

Originally conceived to achieve Anshin Ritsumei (a state of complete inner peace), Reiki is based on fundamental practices.

  • Gassho Meditation
  • Gokai (five philosophical principles)
  • Self-treatment and treatments
  • Reiju (Japanese practice to get inspiration)
  • Gyosei (the poetry of the Emperor Meiji)

In the West, Reiki is widely recognized as a therapy that enhances the body’s innate healing capacity, accelerating the recovery process and strengthening the body during times of illness. Additionally, it offers significant benefits in managing disorders such as anxiety, depression, and stress.

What is a Reiki therapy session?

During a Reiki therapy session, a therapist transmits vital energy by laying hands on a person who is usually lying down on a massage table. During this process, the therapist places their hands on different parts of the recipient’s body, maintaining each position for several minutes. It’s important to note that the patient remains fully clothed at all times, and there is no contact with intimate areas. Generally, no physical manipulation is performed, although in some cases a very gentle massage, known as bushu, may be applied.

The typical duration of a Reiki session is approximately one hour, although it can be extended as needed.

How can I learn Reiki?

There are different ways to learn Reiki, but the order of the courses always follows the same sequence: shoden (level 1), okuden (level 2), and shinpiden (level 3 or Reiki mastery). It’s not necessary to complete all the courses to practice Reiki; level 1 (shoden) is sufficient.

Currently, I offer courses in various formats:

  1. Intensive Courses: These courses are weekend-long and cover level 1 (shoden) and level 2 (okuden). One weekend for each course. For Reiki mastery (shinpiden), I offer a one-week retreat or a 12-day trip to Japan.
  2. Private In-Person Classes: For level 1 (shoden) and level 2 (okuden), I offer 6 classes of 2 hours each for each course. However, the duration of the classes can be adjusted according to the student’s needs. For Reiki mastery (shinpiden), I also offer 15 classes of 2 hours, with flexibility to adapt to the student’s preferences.
  3. Private Zoom Classes: For level 1 (shoden) and level 2 (okuden), I also offer 6 classes of 2 hours each for each course. Similarly, the duration of the classes can be adjusted according to the student’s needs. For Reiki mastery (shinpiden), I also offer 15 classes of 2 hours, also with flexibility to adapt to the student’s preferences.
